Curriculum

The IGS pursues an interdisciplinary and multicultural approach to higher education. The working language is English. The curriculum of the IGS is designed as a three-year full time course of research. Beside the individual doctorate projects, it covers collective thematic introductions, subject specific courses, interdisciplinary research colloquia, dialogue forums, and individual coaching particularly regarding complementary skills. The doctoral candidates benefit from disciplinary supervision, scientific mentoring as well as from organizational and social support. Furthermore, the doctoral candidates are required to write annual progress reports and pass a research-oriented intermediary exam after the first year. The choice of courses depends on the specific subjects of the young researchers and is individually carried out with the respective mentors. The official language of the program is English. In order to achieve their doctorate degree within three years, the researchers receive a structured doctoral education that combines their research project with lectures and individual supervision and coaching.

In addition, the researchers profit from various cooperation opportunities and projects of LogDynamics as well as from the technical infrastructure of the LogDynamics Lab and the networking opportunities of the LDIC. The IGS integrates visiting professors into the supervision of the theses and external experts for specific training in the field of complementary skills. Furthermore, LogDynamics started 2016 offering a Summer School (LOGISS) of one week to doctoral candidates as well.

Doctoral candidates from abroad should be able to master everyday life in Germany and acquaint themselves with the German language and culture. Likewise, German doctoral candidates of the IGS have the chance to go abroad as visiting researchers. After having undergone three years of this structured training program, the doctoral students will have grown into excellent researchers with valuable multi-cultural experience, a wide ranging interdisciplinary background, and have become part of an international academic community.
