TTU PhD SummerCamp in Bremen

The Texas Tech University (TTU) is running an interdisciplinary project with the Jimma Institute of Technology (JiT), Ethiopia, to increase the number of lecturers with doctorate degrees in Ethiopia. The team from TTU has been qualified as the only American team to be awarded a massive international grant, funded by the German government and managed by Ministry of education in collaboration with the British Council and German Development Cooperation (GIZ), to increase engineering programs in Ethiopia. The grant aims to focus on global community and concentrates on civil engineering and construction technology as core topics.

From the 1th of July until the 27th of September 2017 15 doctoral candidates out of this project are guest researchers at the University of Bremen, hosted by BIBA - Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik GmbH. During their stay they will pass their proposal defense under the supervision of 10 American professors and a representative of the Ethopian Jimma University. The doctoral candidates visited already the BLG seaport terminal. They will visit further labs and German universities e.g. TUHH. Additionally, they will take part in guided tours according to their research topics. In Bremen they will join tour to the waste water facilities and a tour to the solid waste management facilities (called Tour de Müll) as well as demonstrations of the LogDynamics facilities AI lab and the LogDynamics lab.

The Ethiopian doctoral candidates will follow the Ph.D. procedure of the Texas Tech University. They will pass their proposal defense in Bremen. From the 7th until the 17th of August 2017, every day of the week two proposal defenses will take part, mostly
   09:00 - 11:00 in BIBA Auditorium
